JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Provides direct patient care through the nursing process within hospital and unit policies, protocols and standards.
- Demonstrates knowledge and assessment skills required in the clinical area.
- Initiate appropriate action in urgent and emergency situations.
- Document all assessments, interventions and information pertaining to patient’s condition.
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication.
- Able to interact with colleagues, patients, visitors and other disciplines in the hospital.
- Complies with hospital infection control and safety protocols.
- Assess, plan and implement total patient care.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- As a Circulator.
- Undertakes role and function of the circulator during the preoperative phase.
- Checks par level of sterile gowns, sutures, catheter and OT supplies.
- Checks that required items for warming are in the warming cabinet.
- Has knowledge of the sterile and non sterile in terms of supplies and storage.
- Keeps accurate record of swab count and labels specimens properly and to supervise the AN and HA in their respective role.
- Cares for the comfort and safety of patient pre, intra and post-operatively.
- Assists Scrub Team with gowning and other duties to facilitate smooth functioning of the operating room.
- As Anaesthetic Assistant
- Has sound knowledge of the parts and workings of the ventilator. Able to set up ventilator ready for use.
- Has sound knowledge of various GA and emergency drugs, intravenous fluids and where they are stored. Records and orders controlled durgs.
- Assist Anaesthetist in induction and extubation of patient taking necessary precautions to ensure patient’s safety.
- Observes and monitors patient under anaesthesia.
- Ensure safe and quality care is being administered to patient during anaesthesia.
- Cares for patient and intravenous fluids, drains on transferring of patient to Recovery Room. Hand over brief report of patient condition to Recovery Room Staff
REQUIREMENT:
- Diploma in Nursing / Degree in Nursing.
- Post Basic in OT.
- Registered Nurse with current nursing licence.
- Valid nursing board registration.
